What to Expect?
Līgatne’s Soviet Bunker Tour – With a Local Guide + Meal
You will be picked up from your hotel and taken to Līgatne by car, ( 1h 15min). In Līgatne we will start our Ligatne tour at the Secret nuclear bunker, hidden 9 meters below the surface.
The main purpose of it was to serve as a hideout for leading members of the Latvian Soviet government and the KGB in case of a chemical or a nuclear attack. While a local guide takes us through the secret soviet bunker, you will be introduced to the history of the Soviet era in this region of Latvia and afterward we’ll have a meal in a traditional 80’s Soviet-style dining room.
Līgatne’s Workers’ Village and Cellar Caves
The village was made for the Ligatnes paper mill workers and at the time it was a very modern and a well-designed place. As your Ligatne guide, I will guide you through the Workers’ village, while you will be introduced to different stories about this place.
Afterward, we’ll be heading to the cellar caves (also known as wine caves), that even nowadays are still used as „fridges” for the preservation of food, jam, and canned food.
Sigulda
As we begin our Sigulda tour, we will see the most popular traveler spots here. We will be starting our trip from “The Gutmanu cave”.
Afterward, you will be taken to the Siguldas Turaida’s castle. As we enter the castle we will discover iconic medieval architecture and its history. From here the tour of Sigulda will take us on to one of the best sightseeing spots – the newly built Sigulda’s watchtower. This is one of the best places for witnessing the iconic Sigulda’s landscape.
From here, those who will want to try the famous Sigulda’s Toboggan Track, will have a chance to try it. After that, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel by your Sigulda tour guide with a car.
